brought on paul ryan as his running mate. do you think retrospectively that could actually cost him? >> i think this is more about mitt romney than it is about paul ryan. it's always more about the principal than it is about the vice presidential candidate. that being said, when you talk to trks over the last few years, ever since paul ryan unveiled his medicare plan several years ago, what they've said is we hope we can play even on medicare and this is in congressional races and senate races. the idea is they want to be able to play even on it. no one saying on the republican side we think we can win 70% or 75% based on this. that's usually where politicians want to be. they want to have issues that resonate with 75% of the people, not half the people. so if they're even at that 50% mark which i don't think they are right now, that would be considered a level of victory. it's hard to go into areas with lots of seniors and say i want to change the way medicare is structured. these people have been paying into the system for their entire lives. even if it doesn't affect them. even if it d

't like paul ryan. so you look at all the recent polls, you have four of them. you have reuters, gallup, bloomberg and fox show the president leading. which doesn't mitt romney embrace these polls and acknowledge them? say, this is how it is right now. we're going to change them? >> i think internally they probably are doing a lot of that and trying to figure out how they can shift the narrative, but i think that article is exactly right. yes, mitt romney has been a poor candidate. yes, his comments about the 47% have been truly devastating to this race. i think his problems go way back. they do go to a self-delusion the gop has about the president. that he's awful and a toaster oven could beat him in an election. it's not true. the american people like the president. mitt romney was forced to move so far to the right in the gop primary it's hard to come back to a sensible, mainstream view and his embrace of paul ryan on the ticket just made that that much harder. >> if you're in the wilderness for years and you're not winning and we have 8% unemployment and we should win this thing and

and what we can expect to see tonight is. she is trying to tie heller to paul ryan's budget plan. democrats love to say that once in congress and once in the senate he was actually appointed to the senate last year when he resigned. he voted for it twice and should probably come up tonight. for her to say something along the lines of dean heller wants to end medicare as we know and turn it into a voucher program, and basically try to tie him to that. you've also seen him running a little bit from mitt romney and with his comments last week about the 47% we saw him distance himself from that saying that is and how he viewed the world. so we may see that, as well. she will also likely bring up the dream act that's a pretty good deal in nevada and is obviously a state with a high latino population. shelley berkley supports the dream act and dean heller doesn't. she's tried to cut an issue and he's tried to reach out to latino voters in the ads and other ways of outreach. >> when it comes to looking at the polling or what is suggested as far as this is concerned, what is the story in nevada? >>
